Yummy Winter Warming Spicey Soup Recipe!!

This warming Indian Spiced Soup combines convenience with the nutrional benefits of barley, lentils and vegies to produce a warming yet low fat, low budget meal that the whole family can enjoy.

Ingredients for 4 people:
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 brown onion finely chopped
1/4 cup korma curry paste (adjust to taste/heat level)
1 litre vegetable stock
400g can diced tomatoes
2/3 cup red lentils (rinsed)
1/4 pearl barley (washed)
1 bunch of fresh coriader, chopped.
Serve with naan bread (sold at leading supermarkets)

Culinary Tip - Did you know?
You can use the entire coriander bunch for flavour, including the stems to the leaves, to intensify the aroma and aspect of the dish.

The Recipe:

Heat oil in a large saucepan over a medium to high heat and fry onions for 3-4 minutes, or until softened. Add the desired amount of korma curry paste for your spice level and stir to combine with onions for 1 minute.

Stir in the prepared stock to the onion/korma mixture. Add tomatoes, lentils, barley and bring to the boil. Cover and reduce heat to low, then allow to simmer for 20-25 minutes, until barley is tender.

Serve immediately with a generous sprinkling of fresh coriander and fresh naan. Enjoy!

Start the 2009 New Year By De Cluttering

The key to decluttering with success is to first plan your attack otherwise you run the risk of being overwhelmed. When we jump in without a plan, we start decluttering with enthusiasm and vigour and then the excitement wears off and we often find ourselves in a worse position than when we started because we have a job half done and stuff all over the place.
A helpful step to organizing and de cluttering is to look at that piece of paper and ask “yourself “Am I really going to use this again. Organizing and de cluttering is a process that often challenges our emotional and physical connection to our possessions, but results in the ability to manage our space, paper and time more effectively than ever before. Over time our homes, especially if they are smaller homes, have a tendency to accumulate and collect all kinds of treasures, gems and keepsakes, otherwise referred to as "junk". Now we all know that one person's trash is another person's treasures, but our homes can only hold so much!!!
So just how do we plan our declutter project? What do we need to do?
Firstly decide what area/room you would like to declutter. But what do you do when your whole house needs to be sorted? It’s a bit like the joke: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. If you tried to declutter your whole house in one go, chances are you would give up in exhaustion and frustration well before the job was completed. To maximize your success, take bite size chunks and select one room at a time
1. Cupboards - Go through all you kitchen cupboards, one at a time of course, and you will be amazed at what you find that can be thrown out. When I cleaned mine out not too long ago, I had three electric knives of which two I had not even used! I also found spices that were about 7 years old!!
2. Bedroom Wardrobes - The saying goes - If you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it. I am not sure I agree with that statement totally, but it is a good guideline to follow. I am always amazed at the clothes I get rid of (and how many I still have) when I clean out my wardrobe!
3. Bookcases - Now, I don't know about you, but I have a tendency to gather books. I looked them all over and got rid of the ones that didn't sound interesting. Also, go through knickknacks, papers, magazines, or anything else filling up those bookcases.
4. Kids Room - This is something that needs to be done about twice a year in my opinion in the first week of school holidays. Get your children to go through their clothes, toys, video games, etc and out goes anything they are no longer interested in.
5. Bathroom - We know how cluttered and overflowing those vanities and medicine cupboards can get. Go through all those goodies and if it has hardened, softened or changed colour, get rid of it!
6. Linen Closets - Towels, sheets, curtains, etc, are also things that need to be periodically sorted and tossed. I just recently discovered that I had almost 50 towels! Who knew?? I removed all the semi worn out ones and was left with about 20 or so. That should suffice.
7. Under the Bed - This part of the de cluttering can be quite scary. Proceed with caution and always have a weapon, such as broom, vacuum cleaner or bug spray with you! Who the heck knows what you will find under there, but I can bet a lot of it can go.
8. Organize - There are so many great products these days that hold everything. Get some inexpensive plastic boxes and neatly store all your items that are not in display or not used daily. You can get small ones in the $2 shops to organize your CDs, use them in your pantry or cupboards, store odd and ends, letters, papers, you name it!
9. Throw Out the Old - One thing you must absolutely remember when de cluttering is you have to THROW AWAY the NOT USED or WANTED. DO NOT just take everything out and rearrange!!! That is a temporary solution and is not sufficient!!!!!
10. Everything in its Place - Once you have everything de cluttered and organized, get everyone to keep everything in its place and your home will remain organized and clutter free forever! Nice dream, but I am sure we all realise that if we maintain this attitude next time round we will not experience as near as emotional or exhausting time as this first one.
De cluttering and organizing gives me a sense of control and achievement. This might not mean much to some people, but think a moment...if you can get control over this part of your life, maybe taking control of the big things will not be so hard!

For those of you who did not see the report on Friday night on Channel 9's A Current Affair they viewed a story on using Goats Milk Soaps to assist with eczema. The following is an extract from the interview

Yes over the weekend of 23rd May I finally went live with my new site. Yes I know it is long overdue however though I certainly did not realise the amount of time and energy plus Proof Reading that was required. I have sourced several new products to sell on my site and will continue to grow and expand the range. That was of course my biggest hurdle as well being a very small home based business not having the cash resources to purchase products in quantity. Luckily for me I have a spare bedroom that has now turned into "The Warehouse". so there are lots of new challenges that lay ahead but they are exciting!

From now on I will be able to update my posts more often as I no longer need to be sitting at my computer uploading products and reading disclaimer paragraphs!! I was extremely lucky this morning to have a very quite start to the day with a cup of coffee and just day dream at my garden and be so glad for what I have in life. Later on my two daughters who are grown up now, cooked me a beautiful breakfast and we sat together and talked about what everyone was doing today.This is the only way I know how to tell the world how much I love them from the bottom of my heart and just how blessed I am to have two such beautiful, thoughtful and sensitive girls. Phil would be so proud of how his daughters are growing up.

Oh and by the way I got those new slippers that I hinted for !!!

Wow after a lot of research, development,late nights and procrastination I am happy to announce the launch of my new web site. I have a new found respect for those web developers who not only have to develop the look and feel of a site but listen and take on board the business owners who want "their" site to be special and "can we just make this change" and "does that have a lighter colour shade" and so on and so on. I am very lucky that I found a wonderful guy named Col Pearson with an incredible supply of patience who in his wisdom allowed me to voice all the visual bits and pieces that I thought I should have and then say "well it would look better like this" and I would think "yeah that does look better". So my advice for small business owners with a limited budget really take the time to ask others about who created their site and find their "wonderful" Col Pearson web developer because i can assure you it makes the journey so much more enjoyable and rewarding at the end of the day.

Finally at last I have managed to upload my very first video onto You Tube. I am extremely proud of myself and see this as another step in my growth as a late starter to commencing my own business. The satisfaction of achievement at any stage in your life never dissapates and also with this is the added bonus of showing my children that if you believe in yourself and your dreams anything is possible. Last year in mid September 2007 I was interviewed for the very first time in my life if you would like to see my effort link through on the title and scroll down the page until you find the picture with me in it. I was so nervous and afterwards I didn't think I would ever attempt an interview again. However how wrong was I, unfortunately the media file was lost and so Mike and Jenny offered to give me another interview which I am sure will come out much better. Yes Iwas still nervous the second time and also as the interview took place on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne on the first day of Melbourne's Grand Prix it provided me with the grandeur of appearing as a celebrity. It was just so much fun and I look forward to many more interviews as my small home based business grows.

Pitfalls of being a Home Based Business

I had forgotten how nice it was in an office environment that when your computer system went down there was an IT person to come and fix the error. However when you are working from home in a one person operation you suddenly become the IT person and in my case this happened over the January Christmas Holidays which left me even more stranded as there was no one to phone for advice. To make things even worse my error relates to my online shopping cart site which equates to no sales no money - catastrophic. Finally all should be working in the very near future and I must say I will be very very pleased when it happens. I have always been a big supporter of looking after home grown and small business operations but I was getting to the point that outsourcing the problem to the "not camping on the beach" holiday people overseas was starting to look my only option for getting back on line. Keep a look out for the Hooray I am making sales again! post.

Well for us people here in Australia it is Christmas Eve, For the first time I am organised for the big day but more importantly - am extremely happy to say that some of the homewares from my sNspice range have made great Christmas Presents for friends and family, which I know they are going to just love.

Which brings me to another point that if you have decided to browse through my web page we are currently undergoing an uploading of new products to view so please be patient over the next two weeks through the Christmas, New Year Break as these new items are installed. Also it is going to be sad as for the very first time my eldest daughter will not be with me on Christmas Day as she is overseas in Central America, I guess in a more positive light I get to wish her Merry Christmas on our time zone and then the next day I can ring her again and wish her a Merry Christmas on her time zone but does that mean she receives two presents one for each of the Christmas Days? I don't think so!
